Terms of reference :

1. To assess progress towards achievement of food security at national, state and household levels and magnitude of macro-nutrient under nutrition and associated health problems in different segments of the population in different regions of the country.
2. To review progress achieved in implementation of Action Plan of National Nutrition Policy and to assess the progress achieved as a result of intervention strategies and programmes including nutrition education aimed at reduction of the prevalence of under-nutrition, review the findings of evaluation studies and suggest remedial actions to effect desired improvements.
3. To assess the magnitude of the emerging life style related nutritional problems of obesity and over nutrition, its associated health hazards, adolescent nutrition , nutritional problems in the elderly and ongoing programmes aimed at prevention and management of these problems
4. Based on the review, draw up priority areas of intervention, strategies and programmes required during the Tenth Plan Period for improving nutritional status of the population taking into consideration the overall development perspective and the need to provide food and nutrition security and improve nutritional and health status of all the vulnerable groups.
5. To suggest institutional mechanism for nutritional monitoring and surveillance, legislation, if any, required for improving nutritional status.
6. To define mechanism for improving the implementation of ongoing nutritional interventions through intersectoral coordination between various Central and State Departments and collaboration among Government, Voluntary and Private Organisations, the Panchayati Raj Institutions and the Community.
7. To review funding for nutrition in center and state sectors during different plan periods and state-wise investment in nutrition during 9^th Plan; analyse the problem of mismatch between outlays and needs (as identified by prevalence of poverty and under-nutrition) and suggest remedial measures for the 10^th Plan

The Chairman of the Working Group, if deemed necessary, may constitute sub-groups and also co-opt additional members.

The TA/DA of non-official members will be paid by the Departments of WCD as admissible under Government rules. The TA/DA of official members would be paid by the respective Government Departments/Institutions where they belong.

The Working Group may submit the report by 31^st March, 20001.
